"Elevate" Youth Ministries
"Become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life…" (Philippians 2:15-16)
A Message to Today’s Youth (a little long but worth the time!)
We believe that young men and women (as do human beings of all ages) have great potential to lead either extremely meaningful or destructive lives. And one thing is sure…we never get those years back.
Unfortunately, when you look at today’s pop culture in America, the vast majority of the messages to tweens and teens (basically Jr. and Sr. High) are promoting anything but a meaningful life. Just a simple browsing of the media (internet, TV, films, and magazines to include product advertising) shows that many adults out there are making big bucks (you are a huge "industry" if you haven’t heard) and gaining significant influence with your peers through messages that assume that people your age are 1) stupid (brainless and naïve; easily manipulated by emotional and visual gimmicks) and 2) shallow (selfishly obsessed with "my profile", entertainment, fashion, celebrity gossip, the newest technology, etc.).
Some teens are mislead to believe that buying "this" or doing "that" helps them show their individuality and proves their courage in standing up against the "establishment", the establishment being anyone "in charge" (an authority) to include your parents, your teachers, religious leaders, the government, and generally any of the other "old" and most likely conservative people in your life who simply want you to think and act the way they think and act (if you’re buying the message). But are these teens being truly "liberated" to be themselves or are they just buying another line of product (whether clothing, hi-tech toys, or ideas)? In the end, what is often seen is a generation not of truly courageous individuals but one of celebrity clones (seen any Hannah Montana look-alikes lately?).
In contrast, the Apostle Paul spoke of the potential to lead the kind of life that is elevated so high and is so bright that its only comparison is to the "stars in the universe". ARCC is committed to help you experience this. We believe that the number one person for you to look to if you want to lead such a life is Jesus (click on "Who is the guy!?" to learn more) and we are not ashamed to invite others to consider the call to follow him and to encourage those who have already made that commitment to go the distance.
The Game Plan
ARCC’s Youth Ministry ("Elevate") seeks to provide Jr. and High students with times where they can both have fun and be encouraged to make the kind of real difference in this world that echoes into eternity. These times include...
- We currently gather EVERY WEDNESDAY (EXCEPT "House Church Week" - USUALLY the 3rd Wed) from 7-8pm to dig into God's Novel (The Bible). If you take it seriously, this Book will mess with your head and life (in a good way). Note: Jr. highers and high schoolers have their own studies.
- THEN on the LAST SATURDAY of every month we do something BIG! (See below for links to current calendar info)
- SPECIAL EVENTS, like summer and winter camps, youth conferences, service projects and short term mission trips
