Recovery Ministries
One of the most dominant themes of the Christian faith is recovery, though it goes by another name: "Redemption". We believe that God is in the business of recovering humanity, renewing our nature to reflect its original image that was designed to perfectly reflect its Creator. He ultimately accomplished this redemption through Jesus Christ (see "Who is this guy?" on the main page) and God offers it freely to those who respond to the call to follow Jesus in faith.
Over 70 years ago, the "recovery model" was popularized by Dr. Bob Smith and Bill Wilson (founders of AA). Since then, the model has been adapted to address a multitude of issues. Most of them recognize the critical importance of addressing the spiritual dynamic in recovery from a host of addictions or conditions. As "Dr. Bob" (Smith) is famously known for saying, the heart of AA was to "Trust God, clean house" and "help others".
Recognizing the valuable role that many recovery groups play in directing people towards recovery and a reconnection with God, ARCC hosts several recovery groups. We encourage anyone who is struggling with a particular issued addressed by these groups to participate in them. Below is a brief description of each recovery ministry along with links to their main websites.
- AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) – A group for those recovering from an addiction to alcohol. They meet on Fridays @ 8:00 pm in the Gym/Large Fellowship Hall.
- ACA (Adult Children of Alcoholics) – This group focuses on helping adults who grew up in a home where alcoholism or other significant dysfunctions were present. They meet on Wednesdays @ 7:30 pm in the Fireside Room.
- Al-Anon – Recovery groups that focus on the recovery of families effected by an alcoholic. They meet on Fridays @ 7:00 pm in the Fireside Room.
